/scratch filesystem slowness
You may experience slowness with the /scratch filesystem.
It is not broken, but heavily loaded. In addition to normal user load, we are migrating data off some older disks, onto new ones. This extra activity is perceptible as sluggishness. The migration is partly completed, but will continue for some days.
Please use the /project filesystem as your primary storage - this is the design and policy on all national systems. /scratch is only ever intended for transient, temporary files: if you can re-download or re-generate the file, it is probably appropriate for /scratch. You should not use /scratch as your normal or default storage. The current performance problem is at least partly due people attempting to defeat the 60-day /scratch expiration policy.
